The theme music for this post is: Archie Bell and the Drells - Tighten Up.
Good news, everybody! Gun.io now has tighter integration with GitHub!
For those who haven't been to the site before - welcome! It's our mission here at Gun.io to hook up project managers with top hackers from the open source community. GitHub is where lots of great open source programmers share all of their code, so we've configured our system to integrate with their code repositories.
This was a very popular feature request and one we've been wanting to do for a long time, so we're very pleased to announce it.
For instance, you can now sign up with your GitHub profile, and we'll automatically fill out your Gun.io profile and sign you up for instant notifications about new careers and freelance opportunities based on the programming languages which you have projects in! Try it out here:
In addition, your profile page will now display some of your GitHub stats, like how many repos you have and how many people follow you. It looks like this:
As we're open source hackers at heart and we're running this project with open source software in mind, we release 'early and often,' so if you find any bugs in the new features, please shoot us an email and we'll sort it out as soon as possible (and we'll usually fix the bug within the hour, in fact).
Now that we're pretty solid with GitHub's API, there are a few more things we might do in the coming weeks with post-commit hooks and .BOUNTY files - but that's something to look out for in the future.
For now, we're very happy with the technology of the site, our rate of growth and our community - now, we need to increase the flow of high quality opportunities posted to the site, so that's going to take our full attention for foreseeable future.
